Inspired by nature…

Natural clay as a raw material is a gift of the earth. Clay sculpture is a means to honor that gift. Denise's artwork has always been inspired by the natural world of forests, plants, rocks, oceans and animals. She is attracted by the infinite shapes, colors and textures they have to offer and the inner affect they have on our souls.

Understanding where man fits in, and how humanity has helped or hindered the natural order of things inspires the artist's pathways. She continues to reflect on this subject and draw on the ancient beliefs of many of the American Indians -- that all things have a spirit and deserve our respect.

Denise has been an instructor at Columbus's Cultural Arts Center for many years. Her works have won numerous awards including recognition in the Ohio Designer Craftsman's "Best of" Competitions. In addition, her sculpture has been featured in many publications and represented in many important private collections.
